I bought a medium and it was a fight to get it on the first set of hooks, as it was a bit tighter than I expected, but not by much.
* First, because I have back problems and need the extra support sometimes.
* Second, because if I'm going to need to wear something, it might as help me look good.
This product absolutely helps with both needs. I have less back pain and I like the slimming look. It does, however, make it a little challenging to drive because my upper body rotation is limited.
Stats are: 5'7 , 180 lbs. I normally wear large tops and size 14 pants. I purchased a 2X and probably could have gone up to 3x
If you're new to waist cinchers, here are some tips that might help:
1) Even though it can be a head trip to order something 2-3 sizes up, it's worth it until you start getting used to it.
2) Train into it. Both your body and the cincher need to get used to cinching down. If you don't give your cincher time to season, it's more likely to fray, twist or bend out of shape. Plus these only have hook and eye closures. Tightening down too soon will cause the hooks to bend out or pull out of shape. Start with 30 minutes to an hour. Progress to two hours. Notice how your body and the cincher feel. Soon you'll be able to wear it all day with no issues.
3) If you're busty like me, stand in front of a mirror and hook in from bottom to top. Trying to watch yourself hook in over your boobs is going to make it nearly impossible to close. Using the mirror, you can stretch up your torso and ribcage, making it easier to close. Then once it's closed you can adjust yourself and the cincher.
4) If you are seeing a bunch of rolls above or below the cincher, you probably have the wrong size. Go up a size and see if that helps. Small rolls are pretty normal, and you can always get a back smoothing shapewear top.
5) The cincher won't stand up to lots of cleaning. Generally you wear it under clothes, so spills aren't an issue. I highly recommend getting a thin, cotton camisole or tube top to wear UNDER the cincher. This will not only feel more comfortable, it helps protect the cincher from lotions or natural body oils. You will be able to get away with spot cleaning most of the time.
